Sections shown on the lines drawing of a hull which cut the hull between the waterlines, which are horizontal sections, and the bow and buttock lines, which are vertical sections. The diagonals are drawn in to show particular aspects of a hull shape, and many designers consider they are specially important because they show the path taken by much of the water pushed aside by the hull as it moves.
